Trainee Recruitment Consultant

Typically, you will commence employment within a Recruitment Agency as a Resourcer / Researcher or Trainee Recruitment Consultant, all these roles are entry level and you will receive extensive on-the-job training and mentoring.

As a Trainee Recruitment Consultant, you will be given sales targets that will typically be reviewed within your first three months and your progression will depend on you hitting your target. 

As a Resourcer / Researcher, your role will be to support Recruitment Consultants by sourcing new candidates for permanent and / or contract vacancies. Your targets will initially be driven more by the number of candidates you submit to vacancies etc. rather than the monetary value of placements.

All recruitment roles are highly target driven and your progression is mainly based on you achieving your target over a period of three months to a year, during which time you will continue to receive training and mentoring.

Opportunities for career development are extensive within the recruitment world, although depend mainly on your willingness to work hard and progress.  The size and structure of your employer will also affect your progression to Consultant, Senior Consultant, Team Leader and eventually senior management.

As a Trainee Recruitment Consultant or Resourcer your career could go one of many ways, you may wish to further your career within pure sales environment, specialising in specific and/or niche skill sets or you may prefer the Account Management or On-Site Recruiter route. Progression to Team Leader or Managerial positions will require enhanced people management skills and a strong financial ability, but your key abilities will still lie in recruitment.

If you do not have management aspirations, recognition may come in the form of developing your own market, becoming involved in training new recruits or specialising in a specific area, such as executives, or a specific industry.
